    Home security monitoring includes a comprehensive system of components to monitor windows, doors and the overall home’s environment. Smart devices such as motion detectors, smart locks, and video doorbells can be installed to provide more comprehensive coverage. This type of monitoring can detect not only an intruder but also sense if there is a fire, carbon monoxide leak or other potential hazard in your home.


  • How do home monitoring systems work?

    The core component is a central hub, including a keypad, that allows you to arm and control all monitoring devices. Monitoring plans offered by security providers typically include remote control access to your system via a mobile app. Devices can be installed on windows to detect opening/closing and glass breakage, doors to detect opening/closing, and room sensors can be place throughout a home to monitor for fire, carbon monoxide and more. Indoor and outdoor cameras can also be installed. Security systems can be wireless or wired, depending on homeowner preference. Homeowners typically pay monthly monitoring fees to their security providers to cover the cost of these services. In case of an emergency, the police department can also be notified through the monitoring system.

  • How long does it take to install a home monitoring system?

    At Citywide, we can install a complete home security system, including traditional alarms, in less than a day. That includes training you on what the system can do – and how to arm and disable it.

  • Do I need to have an internet connection for a home monitoring system?

    You do not. Wired security systems do not require an internet connection. However, if you are using cameras on your system, you will need an internet connection to receive security alerts and to have remote access to your system.


  • What happens if my home monitoring system detects suspicious activity or a false alarm is tripped?

    Your system will immediately notify our Citywide monitoring center, which is available 24/7. We will dispatch the appropriate aid (police or fire) while also reaching out to the homeowner to confirm that the alarm was not tripped accidentally. With remote access, you can easily disarm the system from your mobile device and avoid false alarms.

  • How reliable are home monitoring systems?

    Very! In fact, with smart security technology and more compact alarm systems, home monitoring has become even more reliable and efficient. Outdoor cameras and video monitoring can also be added to the base system for extra features and increased monitoring capabilities.

  • Can I customize my home monitoring system based on my needs?

    Every home has unique needs, and at Citywide, we understand that. That's why we offer a personalized approach and will meet with you at your home to determine the best layout for your security system. We'll discuss all the options available, including smart security and outdoor cameras, to address your needs and concerns.

  • What kind of customer support is available for home monitoring systems?

  • Will a home monitoring system lower my home insurance premiums?

    Most insurers do offer a discount of about 15 to 30% on a homeowner’s insurance policy if a monitored security system is in place. Check with your insurer to learn more. If you need a proof of service certificate, just let us know.

  • Can I have my existing security system equipment monitored?

    We may need to make some slight modifications to the system to accommodate Citywide monitoring, but often we are able to use most of the equipment from an existing security system. This can include using any door/window sensors and motion/glass break detectors.

  • What happens if there is a power outage or loss of internet connectivity?

    All our systems include a battery backup in case of a power failure.
