How Smart Home Security Can Improve Home Value

Smart home technology has become a popular way to improve the functionality of your house, save money on energy bills, and even increase your home value. These high-tech houses are being sought out by many potential buyers, but especially millennials. For sellers, improving your property value can help you upgrade to a nicer place. See what modifications you can make to your home for a quicker sale at a higher price!

What Makes a Home "Smart"?

For your house to be a qualified "smart home," it will need to include several smart products that automate basic functions such as temperature control, security, locks, lighting, and more.

A smart home typically includes thermostats, door locks, and security cameras that can be controlled from your phone. Smart home systems usually include internet-connected appliances like washers and dryers that provide mobile notifications and improve energy efficiency.

If you want your house to be considered "smart," you will need security devices. Smart security systems allow homeowners to monitor their property and receive push notifications directly to their phones. Security features can include smart video doorbells, locks, outdoor cameras, motion sensors, window sensors, and security lights.

Here's a list of some of the most popular smart features and products:

Can Smart Home Technology Improve Your Home Value?

Houses with smart features are in high demand, especially smart security systems and appliances. For your home value to improve, these features and devices will need to remain at the property when you move. Smart devices also need to be fully installed before your house is listed on the market. Once you are ready to list, an appraiser can make adjustments based on your technology, resulting in a higher listing price. Not only will your property value improve, but it will most likely sell a lot quicker.

What is the difference between Smart Home Security and a traditional security system?

Smart security products use digital technologies to enhance the security of your home. It is based on connecting products throughout the property and using an app or cloud-based services to control your security when you are away.

The biggest difference between smart security and traditional security is access and control. Suppose you want complete control of your security without the need for a professional monitoring company. In that case, smart security is perfect for you.

Both traditional and smart security offer similar features and devices. It's how they are connected that makes these options significantly different. Some systems might even have an all-in-one app to control security, lights, and appliances. The convenience of this interconnectivity has many consumers running to make their house "smart.

Other Benefits of Smart Home Security Systems:

Ease of Installation - Wireless sensor technology eliminates the need for wires and cords, which means it's easier to install.

Time-saving – Instead of constantly running to check your doors, windows, or smoke alarms for updates, you can remotely control the system.

Energy efficiency – Smart appliances analyze usage patterns to make energy-saving decisions.

Family-friendly – With the use of video surveillance, parents can keep an eye on their children when they're away.

Convenience – Remotely control your security system from anywhere with your smartphone.
